BEYOND THE MUSIC WITH SOULECTION

BEYOND THE MUSIC WITH SOULECTION

FOR THE FIRST TIME AT BESOCIAL CHARLOTTE

On April 23rd, 2025, the heartbeat of Charlotte shifted for an evening. beSocial Charlotte played host to an unforgettable experience as Soulection founder Joe Kay, alongside Andrés Uribe, brought their newest endeavor, Beyond The Music, to the city.

Kicking off the energy of a sold-out show for Joe Kay’s EP debut If Not Now, Then When? at The Underground, the duo carved out time to connect on a deeper level with the community that’s helped shape the global impact of their movement.

Beyond The Music is more than a conversation — it’s an exploration of legacy. Moderated by Uribe, the night offered an intimate look into Joe Kay’s creative process, the business of curating culture, and the quiet power of intention behind one of music’s most globally resonant platforms. For over a decade, Soulection has stood as a beacon for independent artists, pushing boundaries sonically and culturally, and this night was no exception.

Our space was filled with a diverse and dialed-in audience–artists, producers, creatives, and longtime Soulection fans alike. You could feel the weight in the room, not just from the names on stage, but from the stories being told. Joe Kay spoke candidly about his early days building Soulection, the challenges of staying rooted while going global, and the future of music ecosystems that center authenticity over algorithms.

But perhaps the most powerful moment of the night came during the Q&A, when Cyanca, a North Carolina native and artist, stood up from the crowd and shared that her song had been played on Soulection Radio, and that moment had changed her life. It was a full-circle testimony to Soulection’s ethos: putting artists on stages – both literal and metaphorical – they may never have imagined themselves on.

Beyond The Music at beSocial was a reminder that music is movement, and movement requires people willing to build it from the ground up. Joe Kay and Andrés Uribe didn’t just bring a conversation to Charlotte; they brought a blueprint. And for everyone in that room, the energy didn’t end when the mics turned off – it was just the beginning.
