By Champion, Available December 2nd
History isn’t made by those who wait. Champion has partnered with seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for a 21-piece apparel capsule that doesn't just represent the individual schools, but the HBCU experience. This capsule features t-shirts, hoodies, and crewnecks with illustrious colleges like Florida A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, Howard University, Morehouse University, Spelman College, Texas Southern University, and Winston Salem State University. This capsule pays homage to the premium quality that Champion continues to provide with every single piece they create. Crafting each piece from the iconic silhouettes that have cemented Champion through history.
HBCUs have a rich spirited history, and the experiences at these institutions are shared amongst each campus. This capsule is an expression of the historic legacy that all HBCUs have brought to the world. From academics, to music, the shared experiences of attending these universities have provided an essence of unity within the community that coincide with the concept of Black legacy.
HBCUs have been a crucial piece in the history of black history. For over 180 years, HBCUs have intended on serving the African-American students at a collegiate level who otherwise would not have had access to higher education. From the first established Black college Cheyney University, to present day, prominent figures in not only Black history but world history, have attended these colleges. From Vice-President Kamala Harris, Ernie Barnes, to Jesse Jackson Sr. HBCU graduates have continued to make history every single day. These colleges have provided safe spaces for members of the African-American community, and have continued to leave a legacy of greatness, pride, and impact within their own community and the entire world.
On Friday, November 25th, Champion partnered with beSocial Greensboro for a private event which brought current students and alumni from North Carolina A&T State University and Winston Salem State University within the area for Family Feast, Family First. This dinner seated event featured catered food, a DJ, and a photobooth which gave the opportunity for attendees to capture this moment with friends and family alike. Each guest was gifted pieces from the upcoming capsule that featured their respective school. Together, we created a space where there is no such thing as strangers, only family.
