Nike Air Foamposite One - "Triple Black"
Posted on August 29 2014
For a brief (although to some purists it was more like endless) period it seemed as if Nike wouldn't even consider green lighting a Foamposite release unless it was adorned with some insane graphic or wacky color scheme. Although the Galaxies were almost universally embraced, none of the subsequent pairs ever managed to match the bar; with reception ranging from tepid appreciation, to flat out panning. The onslaught left many of the Foam faithful seriously considering totally abandoning a model they had once held in the absolute highest regard. Then the "Concords" dropped, and the raging seas were mostly quelled, and a little faith was restored. But you just knew that mad scientists over in Nike's design department still had trick or two left up their sleeves.
Perhaps in an attempt to atone for what was considered by many to be an abject defilement of one of the Swoosh's most hallowed silhouettes, the apex design within the entirety of Nike's basketball catalog; the latest evolution of the Foamposite lineage deftly pulls off the delicate balancing act between holding the line and blazing a trail.
While perhaps not as ambitious as the “Wheat” colorway you've no doubt seen all over the net, the Air Foamposite One ‘Triple Black’ represents a segue from competitive performance to street-ready lifestyle. Reimagined for the streets while keeping all of the original Foamposite design cues intact, the “Triple Black” Foams eschew the standard synthetic upper for a nubuck-inspired finish; and in keeping things simple, relies on only black and anthracite tones for an element of sophistication never before seen on the rugged silhouette.
For the longest, all-black Foamposites were king of the aftermarket resale hill, with the Blackouts way back in '07 holding the top spot. But then the Galaxies came and changed the game and the late-2012 release of the Black/Anthracites cooled down the hunt for the original all-blacks. With the way the hype has shaped up, perhaps these could be the pair that returns an ebony Foam to the throne. Only time will tell. But why wait until then? Save - and perhaps even eventually profit - yourself a cool grip and change, and cop these at retail now.
